Music, once admitted to the soul, becomes a sort of spirit and never dies.
Lord Lytton (famous for coining the phrase ‘the pen is mightier than the sword’)

Live music washes away the dust of everyday life and gives the soul room to breathe. It’s what feelings sound like. Once experienced, it becomes part of who we are… and it never dies.

EQUATOR is a much-needed live music venue in the very heart of Sydney, celebrating music from all corners of the globe. We don’t believe in the generic label ‘World Music’… Equator will quite simply present music from all around the world… music that’s part of virtually every culture, tradition and society on the planet.
Set in the heart of The Rocks and established as a place for both emerging and established musicians to be heard, it’s also a unique space for those who love their music LIVE.

Famous Conductor, Leopold Stokowski, once said, “A painter paints pictures on canvas… but musicians paint theirs on silence.” So come and enjoy this gallery of great music as it’s meant to be experienced - LIVE, at Equator, 80 George Street, The Rocks.

Papa Pilko & The Bin Rats is an Alternative Blues band that plays a variety of blues styles from country rollers to slick city creepers. Their songs include such subject matter as "...drinkin’ rye, drug salads, fast little mamas, slappin’ the black, doing the red, losing it all and winning it back". Blending Juke Joint Blues with the sounds of New Orleans and drawing from such renowned stage performers as Cab Calloway, Screamin’ Jay Hawkins and the legendary Jim Morrison himself, this band is sure to have EQUATOR swingin’.

"The versatility of this band’s sound is incredible, yet they never move away from their core image, style and personality. This is definitely a band I’ll be keeping an eye on."
– Meghan Player, Push To Fire
SideShow Annie is a circus of musicians who magically weave slide, electric guitar and harp with a good solid groove. They've been classified as roots rock with threads of blues and country, but as they're from up Katoomba way, they prefer 'Blue Mountains Blues'. Fronted by the flamboyant Gillian Reynolds (whose voice, while smooth as silk, is at times as rough as an uncut diamond), this five-piece original roots rock band should be seen, always heard and never missed.
All the way from sunny Canberra, Beth 'n' Ben's songwriting spans Blues, Roots and Reggae, Jazz, Soul and Rock. This fusion of genres and their tongue in cheek writing style, both dropped in front of a beat that people can groove to, consistently turns heads and gets crowds moving wherever they go. Beth 'n' Ben have six major East Coast tours under their belt and have released two EPs – ‘Boarding Pass’ and ‘Economy Class’ - through indie label Manga Republic. Get your ticket to ride today.
